It's that time of year where we receive at least one phone call a week regarding a pet having fleas. Often times I get asked if a pet needs to continue their flea and tick control through the winter, as often times people are more worried about the ticks than the fleas. I always say it is VERY important to keep your pets on it year round, it can definitely save you a headache.
Fleas are not easy to deal with. Eradicating them from your home takes at LEAST 3 months of dedicated irradication. Not to mention, every pet in your home needs to be on flea/tick medication for the entirity of that time (though as mentioned above, we recommend year round. No exceptions).
Every nook and crany needs to be treated in your home and everything that can be washed, should be washed. We suggest a product called "Knockout" which has a growth regulator in it. This is important as it takes care of fleas in almost every single growth stage and lasts 120 days once applied.
I like to compare your flea/tick control, whether that is Frontline or Bravecto, as insurance. Could your pet go their entire lives without having any issues at all? Sure. But you could also be looking at spending a lot of time, and money, treating your entire home and pets for at least three months if don't invest in that insurance for your pet. Personally, fleas give me the heebie jeebies, I invest in the protection and it has served me well.
If you have ANY questions at all, please don't hestitate to stop in or give us a call. We carry Frontline and Bravecto at all times in our clinic, just stop by to pick some up or visit our Online Pharmacy.
